Corporate support

We regularly work in partnership with companies who would like to support The National Brain Appeal. You can help us to raise funds that will transform the lives of people with neurological conditions in a variety of ways.

Some recent examples include donating time, sponsoring or organising fundraising events or taking part in sporting challenges. This year, the National Brain Appeal is thrilled to partner with Iceland Foods and Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation to help raise vital funds for our Rare Dementia Support Centre appeal.

As part of this initiative, Iceland Foods’ Executive Chairman Richard Walker climbed Mount Everest to raise awareness and funds.

Richard knows how vitally important our mission is, after experiencing the devastating impact of dementia on his mum, the late Lady Walker, who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s over a decade ago.

In a coordinated effort with 1,000 Iceland Foods stores, 30,000 colleagues also participated in fundraising activities in stores across the UK. This is part of an overall £1m commitment to The National Brain Appeal. Iceland Foods’ generous support will have a hugely transformative effect on the lives of those living with a rare dementia.

Making it easier for smaller businesses to support us

Until recently it has been quite complicated for sole traders and smaller businesses to fundraise through their sales. All that has changed now thanks to our new partnership with Work for Good, a portal that breaks down the legal barriers that hold businesses back from supporting the charities they care about.

Nila Rubia decided to support us through a Work for Good partnership after she had life-saving surgery at Queen Square to remove a brain tumour that was taking up a third of her brain. Her brand, Nila Rubia, makes ethical and sustainable clothing at a family-run workshop in India and 10% of all online sales from their 2023 collection will be donated to The National Brain Appeal. Nila is also sponsoring our Rare Space Garden at The Chelsea Flower Show. You can read her story here.

Below are some other examples of ways you can support us. If you would like to know more, please email shivani.patel48@nhs.net.

“I feel it is my duty to raise money and awareness by sharing my story to help support others – and donating 10% of all our online sales to The National Brain Appeal seems a very good way of raising funds.”

Make a tax-saving donation

Gifts of money to The National Brain Appeal by limited companies are made before tax is deducted out of gross profits, so no Gift Aid declaration is necessary. If you pay UK tax on your personal income and then make a Gift Aid donation, we can claim back Basic Rate Tax relating to that donation directly from HMRC.

If you make a charitable donation through your limited company, and it is an allowable expense for tax purposes, the Corporation Tax due will be reduced by 20% of the total donation. You should keep all documentation to support the payment made.

There are some conditions to ensuring that charitable donations are allowable expenses for tax purposes.

Take part in a challenge event

This is the ideal way to get employees involved in supporting us! We have many places in many challenge events especially for staff teams. The most popular include the Vitality 10,000, The London Marathon, The Royal Parks Half Marathon and Santa Run. Get in touch to find out more.

Organise your own workplace event

This could be anything – from cake sales and karaoke nights to summer picnics with games and raffles. Or how about taking on a mass sponsored event which you can directly relate to your line of business? Get your thinking caps on and let us know what you’re planning so we can fully support you.

Make us the beneficiary of your annual company event

If your workplace throws an annual event, such a summer fun day or a Christmas party, this is a fantastic opportunity to add a charity angle to your event. We can support you with ideas on how to maximise your fundraising.

Donate, auction or raffle prizes

Does your company produce something we can use to help raise extra money? It could be food or drink we could use at our events, it could be an item we can raffle off, or an experience that supporters could bid on at auction. For any more information, just get in touch for a chat.

Volunteer

If you encourage staff to volunteer, we’d love to hear from you! This can be volunteering in their own time or by providing opportunities for them to volunteer in work time (by allowing volunteering leave). This is usually called ‘employer supported volunteering’ or ‘ESV’ for short. We are always looking for people willing to volunteer a few hours of their time to help us out. This can be for office-based admin support work, at our fundraising events, in the hospital on our information stall, or at challenges to meet and cheer on our partipicants.
