Volunteer

As a volunteer you will be giving something back to a cause you care passionately about, as well as gaining valuable skills to boost your CV, confidence and sense of achievement.

Our current volunteer roles

Information stand

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to 3 hours a week to run an Information Stand in The National Hospital. Volunteers will:

  • Set up an information stand with our latest leaflets and merchandise
  • Interact with patients and staff, telling them more about the work of The National Brain Appeal.
  • Take payments for any merchandise sold on the information stand.
  • Support the team by topping up leaflets and newsletters in designated parts of the hospital.

Ad hoc event support

We organise events throughout the year and always needs volunteers to help. You can download our volunteer events calendar here to get a sense of what events we have that you can get involved with. Support can include:

  • Being on our cheer team for various sporting challenges
  • Supporting at events eg, set up, serving drinks, selling merch, manning a gallery to name but a few.

Flo’s story

One our regular volunteers is Flo Hanson (pictured below). Almost ten years ago, aged 48, Flo had a blinding headache and was rushed to hospital where an angiogram showed a  ruptured aneurysm. She was transferred to The National Hospital for specialist treatment and the following day, underwent lifesaving brain surgery, and made a remarkably rapid recovery.

Once Flo had recovered, she and her family were keen to find ways to support The National Brain Appeal. She, her husband, Nick, and their son have all taken part in fundraising runs and, since last year, Flo has been running our information stall at The National Hospital, where she chats to patients about The National Brain Appeal and sells merchandise to raise funds for the charity.

“It is really great to be able to volunteer,” said Flo. “It’s just a very small way of giving back but I love being in the hospital, chatting to the staff and the ambulance drivers, and to people who really want to tell you what has happened to them or why they are there. It’s amazing because a lot of people don’t know about The National Brain Appeal, even if they’ve been treated at the hospital. So, it’s a lovely way to raise a bit of money and give people some information.”

How to apply

If you’re over 18, and able to commit to a minimum of three hours a week, please fill out the form below.

We ask all potential volunteers to come in for a chat first – to meet the team, discuss the role in more detail and agree a start date and hours per week. We can’t always place volunteers straight away, but we do our very best to find everyone a role that suits them and the charity.

We look forward to hearing from you.
