On Your Marks, Get Set …

My name is Tallulah and I am a Fundraising Co-ordinator at The National Brain Appeal. My role encompasses all challenge and running events as well as supporting our individual fundraisers.

This year our running events kick off with the Brighton Half Marathon on 17 February, the Paris Marathon on 7 April and, of course, the Virgin London Marathon on 21 April. I have organised a ‘Runners Reception’ which takes place in early February – it is a chance for all our runners to meet their team mates, as well as getting advice from a personal trainer and fundraising ideas from us.

In addition to our runners, we also have swimmers and cyclists who are taking part in the Virgin Active London Triathlon 2013 – and we are especially excited to be a Bronze Charity at the event for the first time.

We really appreciate all the amazing people who choose to support us by taking on a challenge and we support them every step of the way – from the time they sign up, throughout their preparation with materials, training tips, fundraising advice and ideas, right up until the day when we will be cheering them on from the sidelines and providing a marquee for them, their friends and family.

A particular highlight of mine was last year’s triathlon: a local firm of lawyers entered on our behalf as twenty teams of three. It was a lovely sunny day and witnessing so many people take part in such a big challenge was brilliant. Colleagues of the team members also came along to add support and they had a cake sale too. We hope this year will be just as impressive.

It is always lovely to hear about people fundraising for us and it is even better when we get to be there and witness them taking on a huge challenge to support the charity. The best part of my job is meeting our unbelievable fundraisers and hearing their stories. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to fund the vital projects at the National Hospital that we do.
