In 2014, The National Brain Appeal launched an annual art event called A Letter in Mind. The theme touched the hearts and hundreds of artists who submitted their entries on envelopes that were drawn on, painted, written on, sewn and some, even with the artworks sealed inside. As well as established and emerging names, we received many truly moving pieces from people themselves affected by a neurological condition.
We had some high profile names creating masterpieces for us, too – Grayson Perry, Elisa Sighicelli, Natasha Kidd, Threadneedle Prize exhibitor Gill Rocca, Frank Kiely, Association of Illustrators 2014 winner Chris Haughton and RIBA award-winning architect Amin Taha to name but a few. Not only that, some of our esteemed Headliners got in on the act: Sophie Thompson, Joanna David and Emilia Fox all submitted pieces.
The public response was incredible too with more than 1,000 visitors coming to see – and buy – the artworks on show at the gallery@Oxo on the Southbank.
The 2014 works are available to view at A Place for Creation. If you are interested in buying any of these, please complete the buyers form here. Each piece is priced at £80 and all proceeds go directly to The National Brain Appeal.
If you’d like to register to submit a work in 2016, please email A Letter in Mind with your name and address and we will add you to our mailing list.
